Here’s What The New PS3 Update Does

Granted, it’s not the most exciting update of all time, but the important thing is that PS3 is still getting them. The iconic console has still got it.

When it comes to Sony’s long-running gaming brand, nobody really has eyes for anything other than the PS5 right now. Things are heating up on that front, as the company continues to drip-feed exciting new details about their upcoming console.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are still locked in a vicious battle of petty one-upmanship, and fans are declaring their allegiance to one or the other. In short, it’s business as usual when a new console generation is on the horizon. Nintendo, meanwhile, continues to largely ignore their squabbling rivals and do their usual Nintendo thing, which is also par for the course.

The relentless march of coronavirus continues to throw a spanner in the works and leave release dates and such in doubt (although PS5 is still on track, Sony has stated) but that’s the situation as we understand it at the moment. With all of that said, then, maybe we’re concentrating a little too hard on the hype surrounding the new consoles. The older ones are alive and kicking, as PS3’s latest update has emerged out of the woodwork to prove.

The PS3 launched way back in 2006. It had a heck of a job on its hands, following up the best-selling console of all time, but it had a remarkable run of its own. It was finally discontinued in Japan in 2017, with a string of fantastic exclusives like Demon’s Souls and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots to its name. Even now, in 2020, it’s still (barely) alive and kicking, having just been updated to version 4.86.

The big question, of course, is what does this update do? The little answer, sadly, is not very much at all. As Multiplayer First reports, the update notes simply read “this system software update improves the quality of the system performance,” which is about as exciting as Nintendo’s infamous ‘stability’ updates for the 3DS. To add insult to injury, version 4.86 sneakily removes a feature that PS3 had: the ability to message PS4 And PS Vita. Still, it may just be an anti-hacking measure or something of that nature, but it’s nice to be reminded that the PS3 is still a thing nonetheless.

The Division 2 Update Is Out Now, Patch Notes Listed

The latest update for The Division 2’s Warlords of New York expansion is now live, following three-hours of downtime for server maintenance. The patch notes are here, too–they’re listed below.

The update retunes health and armor values across the board for enemies and allies. This includes a reduction in damage output for all enemies and NPCs, reduced health and armor for elite enemies, and an increase in health and armor for Heroic and Legendary enemies.It also changes Seasonal Manhunts to allow all players to receive progress towards their goals at Normal difficulty or above, regardless of what difficulty was set by the group leader.

The patch increases the drop rate for Coyote’s Mask on higher difficulties. The developers also say that they’re “looking into” giving the item to players who are Season Rank 35 or higher and do not already have it.

The Division 2’s Warlords of New York expansion added new maps to the game’s New York City environment and a totally-overhauled gear and power system, as well as raising the level cap to 40. It costs $30.

Gameplay changes

  • Seasonal Manhunt is changed to allow progress at Normal difficulty and above. This will make playing together easier as all players will gain progress no matter what difficulty was set by the group leader.
  • Seasonal Manhunt is receiving a button in the Manhunt UI that allows players to reset the Manhunt to replay it. This allows players to reset the progress specifically and without changing the Global Difficulty.
  • This also means changing the Global Difficulty will not reset the Seasonal Manhunt and players are required to reset it via the Seasonal Manhunt UI.
  • Coyote’s Mask will drop from Coyote with an increased drop chance on higher difficulties.
  • We are also looking into providing the Mask for players that have not received them even though they reached Season Rank 35.
  • Increasing the reward quality for the following Open World Activities to be in line with other activities: Public Execution, Settlement Blockade and Propaganda Broadcast.
  • Reward caches from Conflict matches at maximum level are now of High-End quality.

Balancing changes:

Developer Note: The game was tuned in a way that playing the exact same enemy composition at higher difficulties and higher player counts would match to the expected gear of that difficulty and extra players added. However, since the game also adds more Elites and Veterans to accommodate higher difficulty and player counts, this caused tuning to overcompensate health and damage higher than intended. We are thus lowering many of these values.

  • Reduce NPC Damage output for all difficulties.
  • This applies to all NPCs and activities and enemies will do less damage to players compared to their current damage output.
  • Reduce NPC Health and Amor for group scaling.
  • Enemy Health and Armor scaling for 2-, 3- and 4-player groups based on Veterancy.
  • This means Red, Veteran, Elite and Named enemies will have their Health and Armor reduced compared to their current values.
  • Additionally, we are adjusting Health and Armor based on activity difficulty.
  • This applies to Hard and Challenging difficulties where enemies will have lower Health and Armor compared to their current values.
  • An exception are Heroic and Legendary difficulty enemies which will have their Health and Armor increased to compensate for the group scaling reductions to their values.

Developer Note: We still intend Heroic and Legendary to be very challenging. Therefore, we are increasing the base difficulty to account for the health reductions for co-op scaling. Compared to now this means Heroic and Legendary will be a bit harder for solo players and 2-player groups, 3-player difficulty will stay roughly the same, and 4-player difficulty will be easier.

  • Black Tusk specific adjustments which went live earlier last week
  • Reduced the health of Warhounds.
  • Reduced damage of Warhound Sniper.
  • Reduced the damage of the 360 spin of Warhound minigun.
  • Increased the intention icon duration of the 360 spin from Warhound Minigun to give players more time to react.
  • Reduced weak point health of Warhound Grenadier’s Control Unit.
  • Support Station
  • Reduced Base Health of Support Station.
  • Adjusted health scaling of Support Station with Veterancies.
  • Increased likelihood of Support Stations being deployed in the open (away from cover).
  • EMP effects will now damage the Support Station.

Lvl 30 WT1-WT5 Content

  • NPC Damage, Health and Armor will receive additional reductions.

Developer Note: Pre-Warlords of New York content has lower maximum values to weapon damage, skill damage, and armor (etc.) than level 31+ content so difficulty is now tuned separately for pre-expansion world tier content.

PvP Balance Changes:

  • All PvP weapon damage: – 20%
  • PvP Rifles: an additional -10%
  • PvP MMRs: an additional -10%

Skills

  • Cluster Seeker Mine:
  • Reduced distance to bull charge from 12m to 10m.
  • Reduced distance from end to explode from 6m to 4m.

Developer Note: These changes should make the Cluster Seeker Mine feel a bit more responsive.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed missing dialogue localization for Brazilian Portuguese on Stadia.
  • Fixed an issue causing developer UI elements being visible in the Language and Settings menu.
  • Implemented improvements for data streaming issues on PlayStation 4.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause in-game settings to reset after a player respawns.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Seasonal Manhunt progress to reset when changing Directives.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Apparel Event Urban Jungle schedule to not show correctly in-game.
  • Fixed an issue causing Target Intel to be delivered to the mailbox. This was now removed as Target Intel is no longer used in the game.

Borderlands 3 Update Patch Notes: Level Cap Increase, Bug Fixes, And More

As promised, Borderlands 3’s next major piece of DLC–Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock–is finally out on all platforms. Alongside the update, developer Gearbox Software shared the full patch notes–and there’s quite a bit to chew through.

This update for Borderlands 3 is big, packing in an assortment of adjustments from a level cap increase to game stabilization and much more. The headlining feature, however, is the brand-new campaign add-on.

In conjunction with the level cap increase, the patch also comes with three new Guardian Rank skills and bump to the overall achievable Guardian Rank.

The update makes several quality-of-life improvements as well, like addressing various bugs that interrupted game progression, tweaking weapon damage to make certain manufacturer’s guns more effective, fixing skills so that they work as intended, and so much more. It also seems that based on the full patch notes, below, a hotfix update of some kind may be coming in the near future.

Borderlands 3’s second DLC expansion takes Vault Hunters to the frozen wasteland of Xylourgos where characters Sir Alistair Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs prepare for a beautiful and frigid wedding. Gearbox described the expansion as a “cosmic horror rom-com,” with the studio attempting to “put the love back into Lovecraft.”

All of this comes as Gearbox extends Borderlands 3’s latest limited-time event, Takedown Shakedown. The LTE, which wraps up on April 2, sees the bosses in the Maliwan Blacksite dropping more loot than usual.

Call Of Duty Mobile Update Has A New Map–Here's The Full Patch Notes

Immediately following an update that introduced some new modes, Call of Duty Mobile has received another update that brings a new map, additional game modes, and more to the popular mobile spin-off entry in the series. We’ve compiled the full patch notes below.

The headlining feature of this new CoD Mobile update is the inclusion of a brand-new map. Meltdown, the industrial storage container laden location from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, makes an appearance in Mobile with its tight spaces and open pathways perfect for medium-to-close quarters combat. Meltdown can be played in several game modes, including Gun Game, Search and Destroy, Team Deathmatch, and more.

The patch also kicks off CoD Mobile’s new season, Steel Legion. Though it doesn’t technically go live until April 1, the update implements a ton of seasonal rewards, themed weapons, and more in preparation for Season 4. Steel Legion is slated to run from April 1 until June 1.

Elsewhere in the update, Call of Duty Mobile sees a bunch of adjustments and tweaks as well. This includes additional game modes–like 2v2 Showdown and Gun Game: Team Fight–weapon balances, bug fixes, and much more.

in other Call of Duty news, a pretty huge update for Modern Warfare was pushed back but is now available, as are the patch notes for that and Warzone. It adds a new map and Operator, while Warzone sees four new weapons.

Anthem Update Fixes Legendary Runner Issue

EA has released a new patch for Anthem to fix an issue with the weekly challenge not rewarding players with loot on completion. The weekly challenge, Legendary Runner, was supposed to give out 2,000 coins as a reward on completion and count towards the monthly count of challenges. After players had completed this mission once, the mission failed to reward players for any future completions of the same challenge in the following weeks.

Without this weekly challenge being counted as completed, some players were unable to unlock their monthly challenges, missing out on a chance to get a Masterwork Ember–a rare crafting element for crafting Javelin armor and weapons.

For players who have finished or attempted to complete the challenge previously, EA will be backtracking through accounts and accrediting them with rewards for each completion. These rewards should now be granted in-game, if they are not appearing make sure to reach out to the Anthem support page.

The patch has rolled out automatically across PS4, PC and Xbox One. If the patch has not been downloaded on your device, check your connection or the store page for any updates. Keep checking back on Anthem, as the big redesign is being developed and will be released sometime in the next few months.

Borderlands 3 Update Patch Notes, Tyreen Glitch Fixed

Developer Gearbox Software pushed out a quick hotfix update for Borderlands 3 on March 19 that addresses “concerns reported by the community.” You can check out the full patch notes for the update below.

As with previous hotfixes, the patch will apply at the game’s main menu. Gearbox advises players to hang out on the main menu screen until the “Hotfixes Applied” message appears. The update fixes a number of issues, including problems around mission progression, values displaying incorrectly in item descriptions, skills not working as intended, and more.

Borderlands 3 Hotfix Update Patch Notes (March 19)

  • Addressed a potential progression blocker from Typhon during “In the Shadow of Starlight.”
  • Addressed a reported concern that the Siren’s Fist Over Matter skill was sometimes not working as intended if it was not in the hosts’ view.
  • Adjusted the collision at the stairs in Quietus Pike to prevent players from sometimes sinking into the ground after destroying the second vine door.
  • Changed the Operative’s Cool Hand skill description to show the correct values.
  • Addressed a reported concern that Tyreen would occasionally re-appear after the cutscene during “The Great Vault.”

Gearbox is preparing to launch the looter-shooter’s newest piece of DLC, Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock, which goes live on March 26 for all platforms. Ahead of its imminent release, the studio has show off 12 minutes of gameplay footage with lots of guns and very little tentacles.

In other Borderlands 3 news, the game made its way to Steam earlier this month. The Steam launch includes some added features, including cross-save, cross-play between Epic and Steam, offline play, and more. You also get free weapon skins when you pick up the game on Steam until April 1.

Update: Echo Is Coming To Overwatch

Update 2: Blizzard has officially announced Echo as a playable hero. You can watch her origin story above. Blizzard calls her an “evolutionary robot programmed with a rapidly adapting artificial intelligence, Echo represents the cutting edge of technology.” Odds are she arrives in the game on March 23.

The official Overwatch Twitter channel has released another tease that will almost certainly end up being Echo as a playable hero. The new image of an Omnic has the name “Echo” on it along with the date March 23, which is likely her release date. You can see it below:

As people quarantine themselves during the pandemic, video games, movies, and TV are proving to be a great way to pass the time. For me, Overwatch is always a good game to turn to. The game is currently in the middle of its Archives event, which brings back co-op and delivers new skins, but something bigger may be coming soon. The official Overwatch Twitter account is teasing what appears to be a new hero. Cryptic as always, these teases appear to be pointing to long-known character Echo as the new hero, but we won’t know for certain until Blizzard fully pulls back the curtain.

Echo is an Omnic that we know eventually joins Overwatch. She was featured prominently at the end of the Reunion animated short, and will almost assuredly be a hero at some point, but Blizzard has taken its time in rolling her out, and hasn’t wanted to talk much about her, either. The teases come in two forms: A short audio message, which you can listen to below, and this document:

Doctor Liao appears to be talking about an Omnic she created for purposes of good, and that sure sounds like it is Echo. The date on the document implies whoever this hero is will hit at some point in March. Here’s hoping we find out in the coming days and not the end of the month. Who do you think Blizzard is teasing? Update: E3 2020 Officially Canceled

Update:

The ESA has officially canceled E3, and is currently looking at putting together an online version of the show in June.

Here is the organization’s official statement:

After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry – our fans, our employees, our exhibitors and our longtime E3 partners – we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.

Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters.  But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.

Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.

We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3expo.com.

We thank everyone who shared their views on reimagining E3 this year.  We look forward to bringing you E3 2021 as a reimagined event that brings fans, media and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry.

Ars Technica is reporting through multiple sources that the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) will cancel this year’s E3 trade show in Los Angeles.

The website was informed last night, and shortly after Ars was tipped off publisher Devolver tweeted: “Cancel your E3 Flights and hotels, y’all.”

Later, Bloomberg ran a story that included that the official cancelation announcement from the ESA will happen today, March 11, at 9:30 a.m. Pacific according to “a person familiar with the matter.”

Bloomberg is further reporting that the ESA has sent a private memo to partners that says it is considering holding E3 as an online event this summer.

If E3 is indeed canceled, it would be the latest domino to fall in a chain of events created by the coronavirus that has caused game delays, companies sending workers home, and the postponement of GDC from this month, among other disruptions.

Fortnite Season 2 update leaks several new weapons for the future

A new update arrived earlier today in Fortnite Season 2, bringing some unknown changes to the game. Unfortunately, Epic Games didn’t release any patch notes, so we’re not sure what was altered. However, it does seem weekly updates are back, which is a great sign for the future.

Today’s update introduced some new items, like Proximity Mines, but we’re going to be talking about what wasn’t released. According to leaks from the game files, several new weapons appear to be on the way for Fortnite Season 2.

          Leaked weapons possibly coming to Fortnite

          As with any new update in Fortnite, data-miners went into the game files early this morning and discovered tons of new content. From skins to weapons to possible new events, there’s never a shortage of leaks when it comes to Fortnite.

          As mentioned, some of the newly leaked content includes potential new weapons on the way. One of the top data-miners in the community, @HYPEX, was able to secure screenshots and even descriptions for some of the weapons. Below you can see the images that HYPEX posted to his Twitter this morning.

          Of course, there’s no confirmation that any of these weapons will arrive in Season 2. HYPEX even states that the “Pepper Sprayer” weapon may not be a battle royale weapon. After all, it is in the files as a Save The World item.

          However, the Scoped Assault Rifle looks to be legitimate, as there are rarities and a description. We’re not sure when this will make its debut, but it seems like sooner rather than later is a safe bet.

          There’s also the SlugFire Shotgun, which doesn’t have many details. Perhaps its file will be amended to display more information in the next update.

      • Fallout 76 Update: Here Are The Newest Patch Notes

        A new patch is now available for Bethesda’s online RPG Fallout 76, ahead of the huge Wastelanders expansion launching on April 7. Update version 1.2.7.26 is 6 GB on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and under 1 GB on PC. Bethesda has now released the full patch notes detailing exactly what’s new and changed.

        The patch makes some behind-the-scenes preparations for the upcoming Wastelanders expansion, and also fixes a number of bugs related to stability and performance; art and graphics; C.A.M.P., crafting, and workshops; and items. These include fixes for numerous crashes on all platforms, corrections to visual effects not appearing, and a fix for basic floor components consuming more C.A.M.P. budget than intended, among others.

        General bug fixes

        • Stability: Addressed multiple issues that could sometimes result in a crash when a world was under heavy load.
        • Stability: Fixed an issue that could cause the PlayStation 4 client to crash after disconnecting while in-game.

        • Stability: Fixed a crash that could occur when reconnecting to the internet while running the Xbox One game client.

            Fallout 76 will also be coming to Steam on April 7 when the Wastelanders expansion launches. The game famously bypassed Steam when it released in October 2018, instead opting to launch through Bethesda’s own launcher.

            Wastelanders itself will launch on all platforms as a free update for everybody. The major content expansion finally adds fully-voiced NPCs to the multiplayer-focused RPG, and includes a brand-new main mission campaign to take on, either alone or with other players. Wastelanders also sees you meet and interact with competing factions, with your choices determining who ends up on top.
