Watch the PlayStation 5 ‘Future of Gaming’ reveal event here
Our first look at PlayStation 5 games arrives on Thursday, June 11, as part of a livestreamed event that Sony calls “The Future of Gaming.” Sony’s reveal of next-generation PS5 games will be streamed on YouTube and Twitch at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT. You can watch it right here.
The PS5 reveal event will run a little over an hour, Sony said, and will showcase games from studios “both larger and smaller, [and] those newer and those more established.” Sony cautioned that the livestream will be broadcast at 1080p resolution and at 30 frames per second — certainly not the benchmark Sony hopes to achieve with the PS5 architecture. “This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home,” Sony said. “The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.”
Sony also encouraged viewers to wear headphones, if possible, touting “some cool audio work in the show” that “might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”
First details on the PlayStation 5 were announced in April 2019, when lead system architect Mark Cerny laid out the console’s system specifications to Wired. Sony later confirmed a release window for PS5: holidays 2020 — a date the company recently recommitted to. At CES 2020, the company showed off the next-gen console’s logo, which looked unsurprisingly familiar. In March, Cerny provided additional details about the PS5’s CPU, GPU, internal storage, and other hardware features. Sony later revealed the PS5’s controller, the DualSense. And in May, we got our first peek at next-gen PlayStation graphics thanks to Epic Games’ reveal of Unreal Engine 5.
