The Outer Worlds’ small fonts get bigger again

The Outer Worldstiny text got big back in November, and now it can be made even bigger.

Or smaller. The choice is the user’s once Patch 1.3 launches later this week. The latest update for Obsidian Entertainment’s sci-fi role-playing game introduces a font scaling option to most of the user interface. This means players may now pick a typeface from a range of sizes. An update about a month after the game’s release added a large-type option.

If you’re curious what this means exactly, well, here’s a look at the scaling in action, courtesy of Nate McDorman, a UI programmer for Obsidian.

The font scaling option also comes with coloring to improve its visibility, so one hopes this addresses The Outer Worlds text for good! Tiny type was one of the few nettlesome drawbacks to the game when it arrived Oct. 25, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.

Other changes coming with the title update include ultrawide monitor support for loading screens and cinematic sequences, a new HUD setting option for the reticle, the ability to toggle sprint (instead of hold a button for the command), and a new “Invert X-Axis” setting, if you’re a total contrarian about control schemes or just want to troll a housemate who paused the game and went to the restroom.
