Spider-Man: Miles Morales coming to PS5
Our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be making an appearance on Sony’s next console during the 2020 holidays, the publisher announced during its PlayStation 5 reveal event. The announcement trailer largely shows Miles Morales swinging about town, occasionally punching some bad guys for good measure.
The story of Miles Morales is defined by one question: Who can be Spider-Man?
The reveal isn’t surprising: Developer Insomniac Games was acquired by Sony in 2019, and the first Spider-Man has the distinction of being the fastest-selling game for the PlayStation 4. Marvel’s Spider-Man also ended with post-credits scenes that heavily suggested a follow-up that may further explore Miles Morales’ story, along with Harry Osborn’s. We now know that at least one of these storylines will continue. There are also, of course, more movies in the pipeline, which will no doubt help market the interactive version of the franchise.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was acclaimed for offering a satisfying web-slinging experience that was paired with an accessible story full of humane characters. The PS4 game was also full of references and easter-eggs for longtime fans. The game was remarkable enough that it made Polygon’s 2018 GOTY list, with our own Ben Kuchera stating, “Spider-Man is a meticulously rendered throwback to old Spidey films and games, to the last decade of open-world game design and to an easy style of superhero storytelling we rarely get to see anymore.”
