Fall Guys trolls are making the finish line hell
Tell me if you’ve seen this one before.
You’re playing Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, like everyone else, and the end is in sight after an eternity of flopping around and falling off the stage. You can almost taste your qualification onto the next stage. But ho, what’s this? One bean-shaped denizen waits for you on the horizon, refusing to cross over into the great beyond.
You get close. They lift their arms in anticipation. You’re grabbed, and tossed aside, like old garbage. Maybe you fall off the stage completely. Suddenly, you have to do the journey across giant moving planks and bulldozing fruits once more. Or worse, you’re disqualified altogether.
Yes, the mega-popular Mario Party of battle royale games seems to be full of trolls who want nothing more than to ruin your day. Usually, that manifests itself in grabby randomness along the way, but every so often someone will do so well in a round that they wait near the finish line just to cause more chaos. After all, their victory is all but secured — why not spice things up a little?
Multiple folks at Polygon have experienced this troll-y phenomenon, or some version of it. I, for example, have seen a number of people just gloat at the finish line, because why the hell not? Based on social media reactions, it seems that we’re not alone in noticing this trend:
This shouldn’t be a surprise, of course — the game itself is a giant troll where nothing is ever assured. And the grab button’s entire purpose is arguably evil fun. But, every so often, karma has its way, and at the person who thought they were going to style on the entire lobby gets their comeuppance because they waited too long. Or, sometimes, someone managed to kill them. Beautiful.
Will Fall Guys come to Nintendo Switch and Xbox?
All of this to say, if you see someone waiting near the end for seemingly no reason, be careful! And if you are sowing the seeds of destruction, may the gods of RNG not betray you for your hubris.
