Control and Death Stranding break BAFTA record with 11 award nominations each

The British Academy Games Awards nominations were announced today, and two different games each broke a long-standing record. Both Control and Death Stranding were nominated in 11 categories each, the most ever in the award’s 16-year history. Other nominees include Disco Elysium, which had seven nominations, and Untitled Goose Game, which recently took home game of the year honors at the 2020 DICE Awards.

Awards are presented annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), and are also known as the BAFTA Game Awards. Other high-performing titles include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Life is Strange 2, and Outer Wilds, which each received five nominations. The awards will take place on April 2.

This year’s slate includes four new award categories, including animation and technical achievement. BAFTA members also chose to nominate individual performers for the first time, with categories for leading role and supporting role. Norman Reedus gets a nod for his role as Sam in Death Stranding, and Martti Suosalo has been recognized for his work as the enigmatic Ahti the Janitor in Control.
