The heart is a very important organ for the purposes of not being dead, and one way to keep it in good shape is to maintain a healthy cholesterol level. Doctor Crystal Wyllie, Asda Online Doctor by ZAVA said that dark chocolate and cocoa powder could be healthy treats to improve cholesterol. The flavonoids found in cocoa have a number of health benefits.

They exhibit antioxidant activity that can combat inflammation – a common symptom found in diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer.

They reduce cholesterol levels by blocking the synthetic pathway that produces them.

Public health experts at UC Berkeley have warned against consuming too many, as when taken in high dosages, side effects premarin like those found in supplements, they can increase the risk of cancer.

Cocoa is not the only healthy food that Doctor Wyllie recommended.

“Not a fan of berries? Not to worry. Polyphenols also naturally occur in tea, cocoa and fruits, as well as vegetables.”

“Another lesser-known tip for lowering blood pressure is incorporating whey protein into your daily diet.

Many people who are at risk of heart attacks or strokes are given cholesterol lowering medications such as statins as a preventative measure.

Other measures that can improve cholesterol levels are exercise, particularly aerobic exercise.

High cholesterol levels are common among a number of metabolic conditions.

Diabetics are more likely to have an unhealthy balance of good and bad cholesterols.

Hypertension and other cardiovascular conditions can damage the blood vessels allowing cholesterol to adhere to them more easily and obstruct them.

These factors combine to create an increased risk of stroke and heart attacks among people with high cholesterol.
