Zombie Army 4: Dead War – Killing Nazis is never a bore

From the moments I started playing Zombie Army 4: Dead War, I was taken back by how fresh it felt to play such a carefree and easy to play shooter.

It’s elegant in its simplicity which made my time with it so enjoyable.

Being a spin-off from the Sniper Elite series, developed by the team at Rebellion in the UK, this new game steps up to the plate and shows that you don’t have to be too serious to have a load of fun!

With numerous games under its belt, Rebellion has caught magic in a bottle and has refined its style of gameplay. Dead War feels like the culmination of the studio's skills and knowledge coming together.

This co-op FPS runs through a ludicrous campaign that escalated with each passing minute. There was plenty of room for this type of game to fall on its face with poor-taste or lacklustre gameplay, but that was never the case.

Dead War hits the right notes tonally and playing through the campaign with others is a whirlwind of chaos and hilarity.

It’s a game that feels good to play and with a little tweaking, could take that next step in popularity. There’s a lot to enjoy in this game if you dive in and enjoy the silly, wild ride that it puts you on.

The primary objective in Zombie Army 4: Dead War is to shoot zombies and survive – going through the chapters and facing continuously escalating challenges either as a solo hero or with a group of others will take you on an intense adventure.

This gameplay is exhilarating without being overly exhausting. It hits that perfect note where I found myself having fun and not being too stressed out. This relaxed feeling is due to the mix of gameplay and narrative.

I always felt like I was in charge of my destiny when running around, taking down the undead. When playing with others, it felt like we were unstoppable.

It was refreshing to play a shooter that didn’t feel like it was trying to be too serious or realistic; we’re shooting dead Nazis, after all.

That’s where the outrageous story adds to the experience as well.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War – Verdict, 4/5

I’d recommend Zombie Army 4: Dead War to anyone who wants to have a bit of mindless fun. It knows what it is and wants you to get in and enjoy yourself.

For the small things that could be improved, there’s so much more fun to be had if you look past them. Jumping into the Co-op gameplay will give you hours of entertainment.

These aspects will come over time for Rebellion. As these games continue to find a growing audience and more time can be taken to improve these things, it’s going to produce a wonderfully entertaining game.

Once you’re playing, these issues tend to move to the back of my mind. Once you’re engaged in the gameplay, you see how minor these points are and enjoy yourself.

• Mindless fun
• Constantly funny
• Replayable campaigns

• Rough around the edges
• Movement feels slow
