Today’s Animal Crossing Update Offering Free Mario-Themed Wallpaper
Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Mario update is here, bringing with it a free in-game item for all players. Once your version has been updated, check your mailbox for a free Mushroom Mural wallpaper, which is designed to look like an old Super Mario Bros level.
Unfortunately, that’s all the Mario-related fun you’ll get for now. The rest of the items – including costumes, mushrooms, and Warp Pipes – won’t be available until March 1. Until then, you might as well start rearranging your island in preparation for the new content and planning out where all your fancy new Warp Pipes will go.
Much of the upcoming Mario content is cosmetic, but Warp Pipes actually have a bit of utility as they’ll let you quickly travel across your island. Simply interact with one and you’ll be sucked inside and transported to the other. If you happen to have multiple Warp Pipes on your island, the game will randomly pick one to be your destination.
Nintendo announced all the new content during its latest Nintendo Direct – the first one in over a year. Animal Crossing might not be as popular as it was at the beginning of 2020, but it’s still one of the most popular Switch titles and has a dedicated following of players. Next month the game will celebrate its one-year anniversary, although there’s no word on any big plans from Nintendo.
During that same Nintendo Direct, the company revealed Splatoon 3 will be arriving in 2022. The brief reveal trailer didn’t show off much, but we did get to see some more paint-splattering shootouts in action. As for this year, Skyward Sword HD will make an appearance in the coming months, while Nintendo promised to reveal more about the long-awaited Breath of the Wild 2 in the near future.
Until then, you’ll be able to deck out your island in adorable Mario gear and run around your village dressed up as Wario. Check out the Nook Stop on March 1 to pick up the new items, and be sure to check your mailbox today for the free Mushroom Mural wallpaper.
