The God Of War Artist Just Showed Off His Sonic Designs
Sonic the Hedgehog designs seem to be a popular topic among people. From his transition to 3D to the highly criticized original movie design, the look of the Blue Hedgehog has been under a strange microscope for quite some time. Many have voiced their opinions on the topic, but the artist of God of War went as far as to show his Instagram followers how the Sonic characters would look under his jurisdiction.
God of War‘s artist, Raf Grassetti, previously showed his Instagram followers how he would have designed the likes of Metroid‘s Samus Aran, The Legend of Zelda‘s Link, the plumber-terrorizing Bowser, and more. Now, he’s taken the opportunity to illustrate his version of Sonic and friends.

Very similar to the movie design, Grassetti’s Sonic is less cartoony than his game installment counterparts.

Above is Sonic’s two-tailed pal, Tails. Similar in style to Sonic, the Tails above boasts a very innocent expression while maintaining a grounded-as-possible design for the flying fox.
? Knuckles I think that’s it from Sonic for now i think. I had a great time with my son this past week with the release of the new movie so these are for him. I’ll do everything I can to help support this movie as I do want to see more game adaptations in the future. ?? Hope you guys like them. Expect some more dark comic stuff next. I’ve got some ideas I wanted to do for a long time that I feel that I’ll get to them now. ?? Thanks for all the love, always appreciate it. These are really quick and fun ?? . #sonic @sonicmovie #tails #sega #nintendo @nintendomag

Knuckles the Echidna appears somewhat menacing in the above picture. With his spike-bearing gloves, he coldly stares at onlookers with a smirk.
Grassetti notes in the post with Knuckles that he enjoyed the Sonic movie and hopes that producers will be more hip to game-to-movie adaptations going forward. Grassetti also gives followers a preview at what is next to come by stating that we will see “more dark comic stuff next.”
The designs above are very impressive and directly in line with what he published on Instagram at the time of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s release. As well, it would be unsurprising if Knuckles ended up looking like Grassetti’s incarnation in the Sonic sequel.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie debuted very successfully last weekend, garnering $57 million in revenue at the U.S. box office within the first three days of release. This will likely send a signal to producers about the reemerging appeal of video game movies. However, they should be wary. For every well-liked Detective Pikachu, there has been an equally disdained Hitman: Agent 47 and Super Mario Bros. movie.
In other words, it’s important to cautiously optimistic going forward.
