Tabletop RPG Bundle Raises Money For Reproductive Rights

Board game developers have been stepping up in support of reproductive rights. The podcast focused on Dungeons & Dragons known as Roll for Romance recently announced a collaboration with just over 200 tabletop developers to launch a fundraising project on Itch.io called TTRPGs for Reproductive Rights.

“Reproductive rights are under attack,” the project description reads. “According to a leaked opinion, conservative Supreme Court justices are planning to overturn Roe v. Wade. Join us in raising funds to support and protect abortion rights. Now is the time to act and make our voices heard!”

Anyone interested in supporting the cause can pick up over 275 games including The Abortionists, a live-action role-playing game which follows “a group of feminist activists” as they “risk imprisonment to offer illegal abortions" to impoverished people. "In the act of empowering women, they discover new things about their own power as women.” While playing the game, players will “argue about feminist politics, counsel people seeking abortion, and conduct abortions using a metatechnique.” All proceeds from the bundle go to Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds.

“Reproductive rights are fundamental and non-negotiable human rights that we must fight to protect,” the project description remarks. “All proceeds from this bundle will be donated to Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds so that much needed funds will be distributed on both national and local levels and across race, gender, and economic status.”

While board game developers have been coming forward, video game developers have by and large been stepping back from the issue of reproductive rights. The majority of these have simply released no statement on the matter. Bungie however noted that “everyone has a right to choose their own path” and that “freedom is expressed across all facets of life.” The developer went on to say that ”Bungie is committed to safeguarding the freedom and privacy of its employees and providing support to all employees affected by this decision.”

Similar to Bungie, the developer behind Psychonauts 2, Double Fine, has been speaking out on the matter of reproductive rights. "We firmly believe that a decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade would deny people their human rights and directly impact the lives, freedoms, and choices of everyone in this country,” the company said in a statement. “For those who are able, we will encourage donating to an organization that will stand up for these rights."
