Sony could release two PS5 consoles this year, including a pricier ‘Pro’ version

A wild rumour this morning claims that Sony is set to release a PS5 Pro alongside it's standard PS5 SKU this holiday.

Although, the rumour might not be as ridiculous as you first thing, because it comes from a fairly well-respected source.

The news comes from the trusted Japanese journalist Zenji Nishikawa (Via ). Nishikawa has previously proven correct in the past when it comes to rumours surrounding the Switch Lite, as well as the technical specifications of the PS4 Pro before it launched.

Nishikawa's insight was originally reported last September, however, it only came to light when verified NeoGAF forum user VFXVeteran posted the below, just last week:

“Alright people. One last time.. I heard that there are 2 consoles per company. The mid-gen refreshes are going to be introduced at release so that these consoles can run the entire 7yr cycle.

XSX that was released yesterday is the top end one. 12TFLOPS. There will be a base Xbox Series X that is slower than that one.

Sony is releasing 2 PS models. The base PS5 is 9TFLOPs . Their other one is also top of the line to compete with XSX top dog.

This all makes sense now as to why people are getting mixed numbers for each of the platforms.I also heard that the top of the line models will be expensive. No pricing but I would guess around $600.Also no dates on when the top models will come out for PS5.

My guess is that they are going to release both models at the same time.”

  • Release dates for PS5 and Xbox Series X should be delayed to 2021

According to Nishikawa originally report, the PS5 Pro could cost around $100-$150 more than the basic PS5 console.

Allegedly, Sony is taking this drastically different approach to launching the console, because it has "acknowledged the interest in a high-end model and wants to give players what they want right from the beginning of the generation".
