Resident Evil 3 could be playable tonight, according to a new leak

Horror fans, get ready to grip your controllers in fear as a whole new Resident Evil experience comes to console.

It looks like we could be seeing a new update drop tonight as Capcom gets ready to push out and update for Resident Evil 2 Remake – the stellar modern version of the classic game that released earlier this year.

Thanks to a new store page that Microsoft uploaded to its site, it seems a big update is due to land in-game in Resident Evil 2 soon.

"A deadly virus engulfs the residents of Raccoon City in September of 1998, plunging the city into chaos as flesh eating zombies roam the streets for survivors," reads the description for a mysterious new title called 'RESIDENT EVIL 2 R.P.D. Demo'

"An unparalleled adrenaline rush, gripping storyline, and unimaginable horrors await you.

"Witness the return of Resident Evil 2."

Tonight, Geoff Keighley and his team once again take to the stage in LA to present The Game Awards. Think of it as the Oscars of gaming – lots of high-caliber awards are given to the best games of the year, as publishers and developers take advantage of the international audience to announce new titles and updates to existing games.

Thanks to a trailer during PlayStation's State of Play stream earlier this week, we know that Resident Evil 3 Remake is real – but the timing of this title update and The Game Awards both coming at once means we could see our first playable Resi 3 experience arrive tonight.

This all comes shortly after a new achievement was added to Resident Evil 2 Remake on Steam.

On Xbox, the the achievement unlocks a new image – Resident Evil 3's Jill Valentine talking to Resi 2's Kendo (the gun shop owner). In the image, it isn't raining, Kendo's face wounds are fresh and it's taken from a new angle.

Now that may seem inconspicuous, but Resi 3 is set prior to the events of 2 (confusing, we know), so this may hint that we get a little prelude with this scene included coming to the game later today.

We'll keep you updated as more news breaks.
