Pokemon GO Liverpool event cancelled due to Coronavirus: Refunds now available
In what should come as no surprise given the current climate and increasing complexities surrounding the Coronavirus outbreak, Niantic has today announced that they have cancelled the three Safari Zone events until further notice.
The Niantic Live events team was planning to hold three 'Safari Zone' events across the globe in coming weeks, taking place in St. Louis, Liverpool and Philadelphia.
But due to the Covid-19 outbreak and increased pressures to avoid mass gatherings and the events have been postponed.
the live events team at Niantic have also stressed that they will continue to monitor the situation and look into the possibility of alternate dates in the future.
Although, that could potentially be months away at this stage. Again, if you're wondering why, it's to prevent mass gatherings, like the below.
How to get a refund for Pokemon GO Safari Zone in Liverpool?
Niantic has said they will refund the amount paid by Trainers if they request a refund of their tickets.
Players can do this via in-app support, however there is a deadline to do so.
The deadline to request a refund is April 15, 2020 at 11:59pm PT. For those of you in the UK (as we suspect most of you are if you were attending the Liverpool event) that means you need to request a refund by no later than 6:59am GMT on April 16, 2020.
What happens if you don't request a refund for the Pokemon GO Safari Zone event in Liverpool?
If you do not request a refund, you will be able to use your existing ticket for the rescheduled Safari Zone. Although, at the time of writing there is no saying when this could take place.
As an added bonus for those who retain their tickets, Niantic says it will activate the Safari Zone Pokémon encounters and Special Research globally during the originally scheduled event hours (in your local time zone).
That means you can still enjoy the event from wherever you are in the world. However, only ticket holders will be able to experience this bonus event.
In addition, if you purchased a City Explorer Pass add-on Niantic says that your City Explorer Pass will still work as originally intended during the Safari Zone event weekend in the city of Liverpool.
However, if you decide to play elsewhere (outside of Liverpool), you will only experience a portion of the bonuses.
