Old School RuneScape’s God Wars Dungeon Gets Finale Over A Decade After Launch
Few games have enjoyed the longevity of RuneScape. Despite the most recent release, RuneScape 3, having the fancy graphics of a modern MMO, thousands of players have stayed loyal to the 2000s build, Old School RuneScape. In turn, Jagex has maintained the servers and continues to roll out updates and events, despite it being (at least of the surface) a whole lot less advanced than the third MMO in the series.
Today, Jagex continues with its long-term plans for Old School RuneScape. 11 years since its launch, the God Wars Dungeon storyline is finally at an end, with its final boss added in an expansion this week.
The God Wars Dungeon isn't going anywhere just yet, but it's heading towards its finale with the arrival of the final boss: Nex the General. Being the last foe in a storyline over a decade in the making, taking her down won't be an easy task at all. Player teams can go up to 80 at a time, so you definitely won't want to go in alone.
Nex appears to be an immensely popular addition to the game. Any RuneScape update must get 75 percent approval from users before going live, and the General got through with an overwhelming 90 percent of players voting to bring her in.
Any player with membership of any level can take on the boss, but Jagex does recommend the following levels: 70 Ranged, 70 Strength, 70 Agility, 70 Hitpoints. You'll also have to have completed the Desert Treasure quest, so you have access to the Frozen Door. The door will be used to access Nex's domain, allowing you to try and slay the monster yourself.
Of course, as you'd expect from any good boss battle, there's some impressive loot to be scored. Jagex hasn't gone into too much detail about what we can expect, but it has revealed that among the items up for grabs there's an Ancient Godsword, Zaryte crossbow, and the Torva armour set.
If you want to try this expansion out for yourself, Old School RuneScape is free to play on both PC and mobile. However, this expansion is only available to players with paid membership.
