Halo Infinite Monster promotion starts today despite game delay

Halo Infinite may have been delayed until 2021, but its promotional tie-in with Monster Energy will still take place this year.

Halo Infinite was originally pegged as the Xbox Series X’s biggest launch title but has now been delayed until 2021.

Despite this, though, the planned promotional tie-in with Monster Energy will still be running throughout the next several months… which is going to be weird.

Starting today and until 31 December, anyone who purchases a Halo Infinite-themed Monster can will earn a 30-minute Double XP Boost to use in the game’s multiplayer mode. Which, of course, doesn’t exist yet.

So, for example, if you buy a pack of four cans, that’s four XP boosts. According to the Xbox website, though, you can only earn up to 60 hours’ worth of these boosts (which is 120 cans of Monster and who needs to drink that much Monster?).

You will also be able to use the receipts to enter a sweepstakes competition to win an Xbox Series X console when it launches in November and a Zero Gravity Flight experience in Paris, so that at least is reason to buy them.

Even if you don’t win any prizes, submitting your receipts will earn you some additional in-game items, like extra weapons.

And on top of that, each Monster can has a Snapcode that will take you to a Halo AR experience that comes with a Snapchat filter which turns you into Master Chief.

While the prospect of additional items to use in-game is appealing, it doesn’t change the fact that the game isn’t coming out anytime soon, making these rewards technically useless until next year. Or maybe not to even later if other rumours are correct.

So, people are being encouraged to purchase a surplus of energy drinks to earn rewards that they technically won’t have until next year.

Full details can be read on the official Xbox website.

Halo Infinite will release in 2021 for Xbox Series X and Xbox One.
