Final Fantasy 7 Remake is big seller on PS4 as fans wait on FFVII Part 2 news

While Final Fantasy 7 Remake always seemed a sure-fire hit, it’s always hard to predict just how popular something might be. Hype can blur the lines between genuine buying intent and those who eventually lose interest in the product. But it doesn’t appear the hype surrounding the FF7 Remake ever really went away, which probably helped push the game to strong initial sales.

Square Enix announced this week that 3.5 million copies have been sold on PS4 in just three days.

Considering that the game is only available on one platform, for now, it makes for a strong start for the reimagined adventure.

As you might expect, there’s a lot of digital interest in the game, which will no doubt continue in the months to come.

A message from Square Enix adds: “FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE is out, and a lot of you have spent many hours now exploring Midgar and taking the fight to Shinra.

“And when we say ‘a lot’, we mean it. More than 3.5 million copies of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE have been shipped or sold digitally in the first three days following its April 10 release. Digital sales in particular have been very strong, and continue to grow.

“That’s quite the figure, and it’s not the only big number the game’s seen. The game also received a terrific critical reception, with journalists around the world scoring it highly and singing its praises.”

FF7 Remake has been given strong reviews by a number of outlets, while fan reaction remains largely positive.

So there seems very little chance of Square Enix deciding to cancel its long-awaited episodic series before the next instalment is launched.

WHEN IS FINAL FANTASY 7 REMAKE PART 2 RELEASING?

While we know that the first part of the episodic journey is a timed PS4 exclusive, we don’t know if the same deal is in place for the others.

There is a chance that all compatible platforms will get access to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 on the same day.

However, what does seem certain is that Part 1 will become playable on Xbox One and PC before FF7 Remake Part 2 arrives.

While Part 2 is unlikely to take the years it took for FF7 Remake to arrive, it probably won’t be popping up within less than a year of the first launch.

Fans have been given hope that the wait for Part 2 won’t be as long as the wait in-between the FF7R announcement and its actual launch.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced back at E3 2015 with the Remake launching just under five years after that.

And fans have been teased that development on the next instalment should be more “efficient”.

The comments were made by FF7R producer Yoshinori Kitase last June who at the time said planning for Part 2 was already taking place.

Kitase-san said: “While the development team finish the first game in the project, we are continuing to plan and outline the overall volume of content for the second.

“Due to the work already done on the first game we anticipate development of the second game to be more efficient.

“We have our own internal schedule and plan, but for now we’d like to focus our information on the first game in the project.”

While in November Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that development on Part 2 had already begun.

Nomura-san said: “We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar.”
