Chivalry 2: All Weapons, Ranked

There are a ton of weapons for you to choose from in Chivalry 2, and it can be difficult to know which one is the best of them all. You are usually given a primary and secondary weapon, and possibly a shield, depending upon your class and subclass. The ranking of these types will allow you to become a better player as you begin to utilize more effective weapons.

Some deal more damage, while others are made for agility, but the greatest weapons are those that are somewhere in between. You might understand the basics of combat, but without the right weapon in your hand, you will be destined to die in Chivalry 2.

Primary Weapons

The primary weapon is your main weapon in Chivalry 2 that will deal the most damage to your opponent. This should be your main focus and the deciding factor for which class and subclass you choose to use.

The ranking of the primary weapons from best to worst are as follows:

  • Messer
  • Sword
  • Greatsword
  • Falchion
  • Shovel
  • Battle Axe
  • Executioner’s Axe
  • Heavy Mace
  • Maul
  • War Club
  • Halberd
  • One-Handed Spear
  • Longsword
  • Crossbow
  • War Axe
  • Throwing Axe
  • Glaive
  • Morning Star
  • Javelin
  • Polehammer
  • Spear
  • Pole Axe
  • Warhammer
  • Axe
  • Dane Axe
  • Two-Handed Hammer
  • Pickaxe
  • Sledgehammer
  • Longbow

Best Primary Weapons

The best primary weapon of them all is the Messer because it is not only does max damage, but it also has an average speed and reach. However, some might disagree and say the Balista Bolt should have been included in this ranking. The Vanguard and Knight classes both wield this weapon, so it gives you some versatility based on whether you prefer speed or armor.

A few other great weapons that are pretty equal across the board and depend upon your playstyle are the Sword, Greatsword, and Falchion. They can be used by a Footman, Knight, or Vanguard and your choice will usually depend on if you also want to carry a shield.

A few honorable mentions are the Shovel, Battle Axe, and the Executioner’s Axe. The Shovel does low damage and isn’t particularly fast, but its damage does increase tremendously against Knights and Footman. The reason why this is so important is that these are two of the most plentiful classes that are used in Chivalry 2.

The Battle Axe and Executioner’s Axe are once again similar in ranking and it depends upon what you value in a fight. If you prefer movement then the Battle Axe is the weapon for you, but if performing single-hit kills is your thing then the Executioner’s Axe is what you should be using.

Worst Primary Weapons

The Longbow is the worst of all the weapons due to its poor damage rates, skill gap, and the fact that your arrows are limited. The difference between the Longbow and the Crossbow is night and day which is why this weapon was placed at the bottom.

A few other weapons at the bottom like the Sledgehammer, Pickaxe, and Two-Handed Hammer just were not all that impressive when compared with others. They were not particularly fast and they lacked in the damage department.

Other weapons like the Spear, Pole Axe, Polehammer, and Javelin were all ranked closer to the bottom because it is so hard to land a hit, which is something beginners should know. They are not like swords with two sides and sometimes their longer reach makes them harder to use, not to mention they don’t deal a lot of damage.

Secondary Weapons

The secondary weapons are pulled out when your primary weapon is lost one way or another during battle. They will often keep you alive until you can restock, but in most cases, they were not made to be used full time.

The ranking of the secondary weapons from best to worst are as follows:

  • Sword
  • Falchion
  • Throwing Axe
  • Morningstar
  • Mace
  • Cudgel
  • Axe
  • Mallet
  • Short Sword
  • Hatchet
  • Knife

Best Secondary Weapons

The best secondary weapons are those that are basically a primary weapon themselves, such as a Sword, Falchion, or Throwing Axe. The Sword and Falchion are both one-handed weapons that will still provide you with an advantage if you happen to lose your primary weapon.

The Sword serves as a secondary for a Knight, while the Falchion can be a secondary for an Archer. They both serve as great options for these two classes due to their speed and decent damage rates.

The Throwing Axe might seem like an odd choice but it will give you the chance to regroup from a distance. You are also given six in all which will give you plenty of time to restock at the nearest bin if you prefer to have your primary weapon in your hand.

Worst Secondary Weapons

The Knife, Hatchet, and Short Sword are at the bottom of the barrel of the secondary weapons because you don’t stand a chance against other primary weapons, especially in Free-For-All. It is really no competition when you pull out your Short Sword only to see your opponent still has a Greatsword in their hands.

The Knife and Hatchet are the same way, as yes they can be thrown, but they do such little damage that it’s not even worth it to equip them at all. There are so many other secondary weapons to choose from that have a better chance at keeping you alive than these do.

There are three shields in the game that you can equip to your character, depending upon your class. They will give you an extra ounce of protection, and they can also be thrown at your opponents.

The ranking of these will depend upon your playstyle, but the basic consensus is the bigger the shield, the more damage it can take, but the slower you will move with it.

The ranking of the shields from best to worst is as follows:

  • Medium SHield
  • Heavy Shield
  • Light Shield
