SPORT1 Launches Pan-European Esports TV Channel eSportsONE, Extends Partnership With ESL
German sports network SPORT1 announced Wednesday the launch of a new pan-European channel dedicated to esports called eSportsONE. The new channel will officially launch on Nov. 3.
eSportsONE is an expansion of eSPORTS1, which launched in January of 2019 to serve audiences in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. SPORT1’s new channel will be available in Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia via the M7 platforms TV Vlaanderen, CanalDigitaal, and Skylink. SPORT1 says that the new esports-dedicated channel will feature a mix of live tournament coverage, analysis, and original programming in English.
Content partners include NBA 2K League, Psyonix, ESL, and DreamHack, with competitions related to Dota 2, StarCraft II, Warcraft III, NBA 2K, and Rocket League to be highlighted in broadcasts.
Separately, tournament organizer ESL announced an extension of its partnership with the German sports network that will see select ESL and DreamHack tournaments streamed live on eSportsONE when the channel officially launches.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
SPORT1 will broadcast “major esports competitions” from ESL and DreamHack on the network such as Dota 2 tournaments, the StarCraft II ProTour, the Warcraft III Pro Tour, and Rocket League and NBA 2K events.
As part of the deal, SPORT1 has been named the exclusive linear TV partner of ESL Dota tournaments, as well as the StarCraft II and WarCraft III ESL Pro Tours in Germany.
The Esports Observer has reached out to SPORT1 for further details on existing partnerships that might extend to the new channel, such as the two-year deal the network signed with Activision Blizzard in January of 2019.
