PSG.LGD legendary coach, QQQ joins Team Aster

Yao “QQQ” Yi comes back from retirement after six months to join Xu “BurNIng” Zhilei’s Team Aster. He will be replacing the veteran Aster coach Tong “Mikasa” Junjie, the team announced today on their Weibo page.

QQQ decided to leave the competitive scene immediately after The International 2019. Prior to that moment, he was an instrumental force in the PSG.LGD success starting with January 2017. His work with one of the best Chinese teams brought to PSG.LGD a top 4 finish at TI7, perhaps the most amazing TI grand finals the fans got to witness in 2018 when the team placed second at the end of the best-of-five series with OG and a top 3 finish at TI9.

In the TI9 aftermath, QQQ requested to step down from his position at PSG.LGD  and hasn’t joined any other team ever since then. “We really appreciate the effort and hard-work QQQ has been putting on the team. After having a thorough discussion with him, we respect his own choice and wish him the best of luck in the future,” commented PSG.LGD back in August 2019. Six months later, Aster welcome the legendary coach to their ranks as they are preparing for the upcoming StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3.

Team Aster’s official announcement translates:

“Based on the agreement through friendly communication and our respect for personal will, Tong “Mikasa” Junjie, former coach of Team Aster, has left the team at the end of January. We appreciate Mikasa for his efforts and we wish him all the best in his future career and personal life matters.

Meanwhile, Yao “QQQ” Yi, officially joins Team Aster as coach. As a coach and former professional player, he has earned many titles for his team. We hope he can bring good changes to the team.

However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, QQQ isn’t able to join us in person. Since SLi S3 MINOR is about to start, to ensure the efficient training of the team, LaNm, coach at Team Sirius, will be our temporary coach to help us with the training for the SLi S3 Minor.”

Team Aster are currently ranked 11 in the Dota Pro Circuit with a total of 340 points gathered at the first two Majors of the season. In the third round of DPC qualifiers, Aster clinched a spot to the Minor and will look to make a Minor into the Major run to consolidate their spot among the best top 12 teams in the world. The StarLadder ImbaTV Minor is set to begin on the 5th of March with eight teams fighting for the tournament title and a ticket to the ESL One Los Angeles Major.
