Motivate.Trust Gaming take the BTS Pro Series Season 3: SEA title
Thailand representatives Motivate.Trust Gaming swiped 3-0 through BOOM Esports to win their first important tournament.
Formed only at the beginning of 2019, rebranded and with a roster change made this year in February, Motivate.Trust Gaming made a big leap from constantly placing top eight in the regional online tournaments held over the past several months to taking down the biggest names in their region to eventually claim a BTS Pro Series title.
On their road to the grand finals, MTG lost just one series during the group stage, to Among Us, and won 2-0 against TNC Predator, Fnatic, 032 and 496 Gaming to secure an upper bracket playoff seed.
Among Us took the revenge over them in the opening series of the playoffs and forced them to a long lower bracket run, where they managed to bounce back and even take down Among Us once more, in the lower bracket finals.
Their adversaries for the title, BOOM Esports had a nearly perfect run throughout the entire tournament reaching the grand finals from the upper bracket with clean cuts through TNC and Among Us, however, in the final act, they seemed unable to capitalize on their advantages. In game one BOOM ran a Riki carry paired with Storm Spirit and Clockwerk, which gave them the vision and the initiation advantage, but they lacked siege power, couldn’t end the game fast enough and got punished by MTG’s Anti-Mage draft.
Heading into the second game, BOOM got outdrafted and severely outplayed by MTG, who had five heroes able to bash, stun, control the team fights and keep BOOM under the pressure from the start to the very end. One game away from losing the grand finals, BOOM had a much better start and reacted promptly to MTG’s laning aggression to stay in the lead for the first 20 minutes. However, they had to wait for their Morphling to finish his key items before being able to fight 5 vs 5, and that cost them the game once MTG took control over the map and the Roshan Pit to end the series 3-0.
BTS Pro Series Season 3: SEA was definitely one of the most unpredictable and interesting Southeast Asia tournaments. It was the event where Fnatic had to “sacrifice the immediate results” and take the hard path of rebuilding the team after Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong and Daryl Koh “iceiceice” Pei Xiang.
The event also featured two of the just released Fnatic players, 23savage and Jabz taking the region by storm with a stack made just for fun a day ahead of the tournament. While Among Us placed third and Fnatic were the first that got eliminated, in the group stage, TNC Predator got knocked out top 6 and Motivate.Trust Gaming have secured their first important tournament victory.
