Gen.G win first LAN, go undefeated on the way

Gen.G has won their first LAN outing as they were crowned the champions of DreamHack Open Anaheim. The team managed to take down FURIA in the grand finals to pull off the undefeated run at the $100,000 event.

Gen.G opened up the event with a narrow come from behind victory over ENCE before meeting Complexity to decide who would get a berth straight into the semifinals. Another tight game saw Damian “daps” Steele’s unit come away with the 16-13 win and make it into the semifinals. FURIA made the same move on the other side of the bracket after besting North and Endpoint to earn their place in the semifinals.

It was in the semifinals that Gen.G took on the Danish side of North for a shot at the finals. A strong showing from Sam “s0m” Oh, a consistent theme of the event, helped propel the team to a 2-0. s0m wasn’t the only strong performer, however, as Timothy “autimatic” Ta and Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand both posted similar numbers. It wasn’t a walk in the park though with both maps being contested until the end where they finished 16-13 and 16-14.

Moving into the finals, both teams looked to be resilient with tight games in their rearview mirror. FURIA had pulled off a close win against Complexity in the semifinals to book their spot in the match.

Once again it was s0m to light up the scoreboard with a +14 kill-to-death differential alongside 81.9 average damage per round. autimatic while only a +1 through the series had a series-high 89.1 ADR. Gen.G picked up a relatively one-sided Nuke victory before FURIA battled back to force overtime on Inferno. Overtime would be all Gen.G, however, as the team picked up a 19-15 win to close out the series and win the event.
