Discord changes Go Live streaming limit due to COVID-19 situation

Popular gaming chat application Discord made it easier for people to use their Go Live feature while working from home. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, many companies around the globe have instructed employees to stay away from social interaction. Besides employers, schools and other gatherings have also come to a temporary halt. Discord has helped bridge the gap in social separation and created changes in their screen sharing service.

The app posted the news on their official Twitter account, stating an update due to the global outbreak. “We’re temporarily upping the Go Live streaming and screen share limit from 10 to 50 people for the next few months.” Discord’s Go Live streaming feature allows gamers to actively stream their games. Normally, this feature allows only 10 people to view these streams. Because more people currently work or study at home, Discord recognizes their app will be used more often.

          Making it easier for students

          Along with the Go Live feature, Discord also allows screen sharing. This feature gives users the option to video and voice chat up to 10 people at a time (including the user). Because of the aforementioned reasons, the sharing limit has changed from 10 to 50 as well. This change makes it easier for students and teachers to hold classes via video chat. The only other video conferencing app with this limit is Microsoft’s Skype.

          I’ve never really used this but in light of all the shutdowns and cancellations its refreshing to see a company find a way to instead give back more.
