Beckham-Affiliated Guild Esports Enters Valorant, Signs Swedish Team Bonk
Guild Esports, the U.K.-based esports organization affiliated with David Beckham, has announced its entry into Valorant, signing a Swedish roster which previously competed under the name “Bonk.” The signing comes as the Valorant scene gears up for the first official championship-caliber event, Riot Games’ First Strike tournament.
While Guild is late to field a European Valorant roster, with many of the big names secured by other organizations, Bonk was regarded among the better unsigned rosters. The team finished second at the recent Mandatory.gg Cup, losing only to G2 Esports and finishing ahead of better-known organizations like Ninjas in Pyjamas and Vodafone Giants.
The new Valorant squad brings Guild Esports up to three total teams, having previously signed rosters for Rocket League and FIFA.
While the organization is still new and growing, it has received an outsized degree of coverage due to its connection with soccer superstar David Beckham. Recently, The Esports Observer detailed the relationship between Guild and Beckham, including the organization’s agreement to pay him $20M prior to his investment.
